Living Islands

This Giving Tuesday, Help NHPI Families Stay Connected, Prepared, and Seen

Why your Giving Tuesday gift matters

  • Culturally driven connection: Living Islands provides cultural engagement that reaches otherwise isolated parts of our NHPI community—through events, forums, and hands-on learning grounded in Pacific Islander traditions.

  • First cultural food drive in Oregon during COVID: When the pandemic hit, Living Islands organized the first cultural food drive in Oregon, centered on Pacific Islander foods and practices, ensuring families received support in ways that felt familiar and respectful.

  • Working across counties and sectors: Today, we work across multiple Oregon counties and with state agencies to support health equity, youth programs, food security, and emergency preparedness for NHPI families—through initiatives like GoFishPI, cultural health forums, digital inclusion, and more.

What your gift supports over the next 12 months

Suggested short bullets you can tweak to match current grants:

  • Community Health & PSAs
Cross-cultural health forums, medical mission partnerships, and professional PSAs that help agencies communicate effectively with NHPI communities.

  • Food Security & Cultural Learning (GoFishPI)
Crabbing weekends, shoreline education, and traditional food practices that teach safety, stewardship, and culture side-by-side.

  • Youth & Family Programs
Youth-centered activities, sports & leadership projects, and family events that strengthen identity and belonging.

  • Emergency Preparedness & Tech Access
Preparedness education, resource referrals, and laptops/tablets for families to access school, work, telehealth, and emergency information.

Your small gift today fuels 12 months of consistent, culturally grounded support.

Community health town hall event

Living Islands hosted a community health town hall event on April 29. We caught up with Dr. Sheldon Riklon and many of our other community partners to talk about #COVID-19, #vaccines, #tobacco, and other #health challenges facing the #Marshallese community. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect, ask questions, and speak about Marshallese health. Thank you to everyone who attended and all of our speakers who shared their work and showed how partnerships like these strengthen our community!

Together, we can make 2022 a year of better health!
