Basic Assignments: | Under the supervision of the JOA Camp Leadership Team, a Counselor is responsible for the supervision of 10 campers, ages 14-17, and is responsible for leading a variety of fun, educational and physical activities designed to help participants become leaders in ocean conservation and activism. A variety of skills are expected in the following areas: active listening, environmental education, storytelling, leadership development, water sports and athletics, ocean sciences, and group leadership. Above all, a Counselor must have a sincere and energetic desire to help develop youth leaders and create a safe, fun, and positive environment for youth participants. |

Other Skills & Abilities: | Counselors must be able to perform the basic physical functions below to be successful in the position. While performing the duties of this job, Counselors will be frequently required to stand, run, swim and walk. Daily tasks will often include carrying or moving objects of up to 80 pounds. Counselors will frequently be required to speak loudly, listen, and visually observe camp activities. Counselors will occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, write, draw, and engage socially with peers and campers. |
