Escaping the Wildfire Smoke

Like so many others, we’re affected by the Oregon Wildfires. We work in an area that forms a natural pocket for the smoke, so today, as the Air Index passes 500 and our office became part of the Evacuation Zone (Level 1), we have decided it’s too unhealthy to stay. We are packing up laptops, notes, supplies and are escaping to the Coast for some fresh air.

Despite this, we consider ourselves truly blessed to only having to deal with the smoke when so many have seen their homes destroyed.

Stay safe whenever and wherever you can, you are all in our prayers.

Self-sustaining Micro-Greens! Our visiting to Wind River Project.

This weekend we had the pleasure of visiting the Wind River Project, co-owned by Ryan, one of our Living Islands volunteers, to learn about Microgreens, Hydroponics, and food security for small communities. We were joined by some of our oldest supporters, former Board President Neil Berl and his wife Andrea. It was great to see them again.

Our long-term plan is to find funding to do this for the small communities in the outer atolls in Micronesia. The Wind River Project is pretty amazing and has a great model for almost complete self-sufficiency in a farming project.
